In the evolution of the Greater New Bedford Youth Alliance, the interlocking crises of the coronavirus and white police violence against youth and other people of color call on us to both broaden our organizational vision and bring into focus the complex, interrelated challenges that are deepening youth trauma and other threats to healthy youth development and well-being. Young people will likely disproportionately experience the protracted educational, health, social, and economic consequences of these crises. Rather than regarding youth and young adults as merely victims, we as an alliance must support their front-and-center role in recovering from the dual traumas of the coronavirus pandemic and racism endemic in police departments and society.
